The British racing driver signed for McLaren in 2007, becoming the first black driver to compete in Formula One at the Australian Grand Prix.
Hamilton won four Grands Prix and set several records as he finished runner-up to Kimi Räikkönen by one point in his rookie season,
2024 Formula One season performance
The Stevenage-born superstar ended the season with a career-lowest seventh in the championship - 22 points behind Mercedes teammate George Russell.
Hamilton secured his 200th podium finish in Hungary and another victory at the Belgian Grand Prix and he has since joined Ferrari.
Why Hamilton could win the 2025 Australian Grand Prix
The 40-year-old has been crowned champion twice in the Australian Grand Prix, having won the 2008 event and the 2015 race.
Lex Davidson and Michael Schumacher won a record five Australian Grand Prix titles, and Hamilton will be eager to win this weekend's race in order to close the gap.
What did he say?
“Obviously, he’s been here for a long time, so he knows the team well, he speaks Italian, he’s at home and at ease," Hamilton said about his new teammate at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc.
"But because we already had a friendship before, that’s made it a lot easier to just get straight into working together. He’s incredibly talented, so he’s going to be so fast this year.
"I’m looking forward to learning what I can from him and supporting him alongside the team to the deliver the best results we can get.”
