With Girona languishing a little too close for comfort to the relegation zone, they will be targeting nothing but three points when they lock horns with Real Betis at Estadi Montilivi on Monday evening, 21 April.
Girona are a shadow of their former selves from last season, and now have the task to stay in the top-flight to avoid any further humiliation.
Their poor form continued as they lost 2-1 to Osasuna in their last league match, and the Catalan team have only managed to win three points from a possible 27, which has seen them plummet to 16
th place.
Girona's head coach, Michel Sanchez, emphasised the importance of his team avoiding relegation from the top tier of the Spanish Championship.
“I am happy here. I have already said that the Girona project is spectacular, and I am part of this project. But right now, the most important thing is to stay in
La Liga,” Sanchez said.
“I am not worried about my situation. However, I am happy, very happy. This project is mine, I am in a wonderful place.”
On the other hand, Real Betis are placed sixth in the league and are working hard to secure a European finish with seven games left to play this season.
They faced a stumble however last weekend, losing to Villareal in the race for continental football. Betis midfielder Isco says that the team should crowdfund to extend winger Antony’s loan from Manchester United.
"We have to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year. We've noticed a change since he arrived; he brings us a lot. I'm happy to have Antony here. He's surprised us all with his humility and desire to help,” he said about the Brazilian.
