Guinea will look to finish their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a high when they face Malawi at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday, September 9.

The National Elephants have already booked their place at the showpiece in Ivory Coast next year after the 0-0 draw between Ethiopia and Malawi on June 20 meant that they could no longer finish in the top two in Group D.

Kaba Diawara's side lost 2-1 to Egypt on June 14 and trail them by three points in second place, having all but secured their passage to the AFCON finals with back-to-back wins over the Walia Ibex in March.

The West Africans required a stoppage-time goal from captain Naby Keita to beat the Flames 1-0 in the reverse fixture on matchday 2, which extended their winning streak against Malawi to three matches.

Hafia FC centre-back Mohamed Cherif Camara is one of two new faces included in Diawara's 23-man squad and the 20-year-old is relishing the opportunity to play at the highest level for his country after representing the Under-23's at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

"It's long-standing work that has been rewarded, a new stage for my career and a chance for me to increase my experience with my brothers," Camara said.

Malawi have nothing to play for but pride after their elimination was confirmed on matchday 5.

Patrick Mabedi's side impressed at the 2023 COSAFA Cup two months ago, beating defending champions Zambia 1-0 in their opening match and going on to reach the semi-finals.

Mabedi wants his players to treat the home fans by giving them a second win Lilongwe, where the Flames also defeated Ethiopia 2-1 to kick off proceedings in the group.

"It's a home game, and we have to win to end the campaign on a high note," he insisted. "We started with a win and must end with a win.

"We are building a young team of local-based players, and most will be playing at home in front of their own fans for the first time. So, they need to get a result to build their confidence ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in November."
