Round 4
Suzuka International Racing Course
Suzuka, Japan

Max Verstappen will be eager to complete a hat-trick of Japanese Grand Prix title wins and emulate Michael Schumacher in the process.

Most recent race

The Red Bull Racing driver endured his worst display of the season so far when he failed to finish the Australian Grand Prix on 24 March.

Verstappen started on P1 on the grid, but he was unable to finish the race due to a brakes issue which saw him fail to record a single point.

Formula One title ambitions

The three-time Autosport International Racing Driver of the Year remains at the top of the World Drivers' Championship standings having collected 51 points from three races.

Verstappen is just four points clear of second-placed Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and he will be under pressure to return to winning ways in the next race.

Why Verstappen could win the 2024 Japanese GP

The 2023 Best Driver ESPY Award winner has won the last two races in Japan as he dominated the Suzuka International Racing Course.

Failing to make it three wins in a race in the current season at the Australian Grand Prix, will make Verstappen more determined to win and retain the Japanese Grand Prix title.

What did he say?

"It's unfortunate what happened today, but from what we've seen in the data, the moment the lights went out (at the start), the right rear brake got caught and locked up," Verstappen said after the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.

"It was like driving with the handbrake on and, as a consequence, the temperature was rising; until I saw smoke coming out because it had caught fire.

"We knew a day like this would come sometime, so we have to be proud to have made it nine wins in a row, and now we have to focus on coming back stronger in Suzuka."
