The Mexican Open, which is the eighth event on the 2025 PGA Tour schedule, will be played in Vallarta, Mexico between 20 and 23 February. 

What to know about the tournament

The Mexico Open at Vidanta World dates back to 1944 when it was called Abierto Mexicano de Golf and is considered Mexico’s national championship, and it is currently held at the Vidanta Vallarta.
 
The 2025 edition will appear on the PGA TOUR schedule for the fourth consecutive time as an official FedExCup event and it is also part of the Web.com Tour, Challenge Tour, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and Tour de las Américas.

Tournament organisers have announced that Mexican golfer Santiago de la Fuente, who was the best amateur in 2024, will return to the 2025 Mexican Open as a full-time professional. 
 
His countryman Álvaro Ortiz, the only Mexican who will have participated in all four editions of the event, will tee it up this week and his compatriot José Cristóbal Islas will also return.

The 2025 Mexican Open will be headlined by the defending champion Jake Knapp and established professionals Aaron Rai, Akshay Bhatia, Maverick McNealy, Rasmus Højgaard, Stephan Jaeger as well as last year's runner-up Sami Välimäki.
 
PGA TOUR winners in Mexico: Erik van Rooyen, Brendon Todd, Patton Kizzire and Charley Hoffman will return to Mexico in search of another victory in the country as part of the 132-player field.
 
What Is At Stake

The Mexican Open will see golfers compete for a share of the $7 million purse, with the 2025 champion receiving a check of $1,26 million.

The winner of this event will also receive 500 FedEx Cup points, a yet-to-be-determined amount of OWGR points, and a sterling silver trophy.
