The three-time European Tour Player of the Year took a break from professional golf after competing in the 2024 US Open where he finished second.
McIlroy is currently placed second in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and he is former world number one.

The accomplished golfer secured a birdie-birdie finish which lifted him to 15 under and a shot clear of Robert MacIntyre to win the 2023 Scottish Open.
McIlroy won this PGA Tour season's Zurich Classic of New Orleans and Wells Fargo Championship, and he is now looking to record his third victory this weekend.
