Jannik Sinners will tussle it out with Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals of the
2024 French Open at the Stade Roland Garros on Tuesday, 4 June.
Previous round
Sinners showed character when he faced Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the fourth round as he won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 on Sunday, 2 June.
Meanwhile, Dimitrov was up against Poland's Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round and he emerged as a 7-6(5), 6-4, 7-6(3) winner on Sunday, 2 June.
French Open record
Sinners is making his second appearance in the French Open quarter-finals and he has matched his best performance in the grand slam event.
The 22-year-old Italian has won 13 ATP Tour singles titles, including a Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open and two Masters 1000 titles.
Dimitrov, on the other hand, has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open for the first time in what is his best display in the tournament.
The Bulgarian legend has been ranked as high as world No. 3 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and has won nine ATP Tour singles titles to date.
What was said
“I think it was very tough for me. He played very, very well in the first set. I had some chances," Sinners said after defeating Moutet.
"But he played much better than me, so I had to adjust a little bit. He had an amazing run this Roland-Garros. He plays differently than most of the opponents, so it was tough for me.
"He’s also lefty; you don’t play so many times against left-handers, so I’m happy to be in the next round.”
Head-to-Head record
Sinners and Dimitrov have met four times in professional tournaments since their first match in 2020.
Sinners has the edge in this rivalry having won three matches compared to Dimitrov's one win.
Their last meeting ended in a 6-3, 6-1 in favour of Sinners in the final of the Miami Open in March 2023.
