2023/24 English Premier League
Matchday 28
Liverpool v Manchester City
Anfield
Liverpool, England
Sunday, 10 March 2024
Kick-off is at 17h45
Liverpool and Manchester City will battle it out for pole position in the
Premier League when they clash at Anfield on Sunday, March 10 in the late kick-off.
The two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season, which was the third stalemate in five league meetings between them.
Jurgen Klopp's side maintained their narrow one-point lead over City courtesy of a 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest on March 2 which extended their winning streak to four matches.
The Citizens battled back from an early goal down to beat neighbours Manchester United 3-1 at Eastlands on March 3 to go 12 games unbeaten and open up a five-point gap to Arsenal ahead of their trip to Sheffield United the following day.
Aston Villa (4th) closed within three points of the Gunners in fourth place after they held off a spirited fightback from Luton to come away 3-2 victors at Kenilworth Road.

In team news, Klopp could welcome back talisman Mohamed Salah (thigh) and Curtis Jones (ankle), but he remains without Joel Matip, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold (all knee), Alisson, Thiago Alcantara (both thigh), Stefan Bajcetic and Ryan Gravenberch. Jack Grealish (groin) is the only absentee for Pep Guardiola's side.
Forest fans attempted to take the mickey out of Darwin Nunez prior to his 99th-minute winner by comparing him to Liverpool flop Andy Carroll in a chant from the stands, and Klopp claimed it was foolish to wind up the Uruguayan striker.
"I would not sing a song like that. I would not try to wind Darwin up. It is a super-important goal that gives us three points and that is always super-decisive. For him it is super deserved," the German said.
"Because people are singing that song more often and that's the best way to calm it immediately down. They can sing it if Darwin responds like he did today. I understood it. I think he understands it. It is the best answer."

Guardiola believes Phil Foden is developing into one of the best players in the country after his match-winning brace against the Red Devils which took his tally for the season to 11 goals.
"He is right now this season, yes. One of the best, the Spaniard said. "Always I had the feeling he will score goals, in training sessions I have that feeling.
"Now he is winning games. To become world class you have to win games. He lives to play football. He has always scored goals and now he is winning games.
"The feeling he is aggressive to score, that's why he is becoming a really important player for us and the national team."
