Both the Sacramento Kings and the New York Knicks have a battle on their hands to qualify automatically for the NBA playoffs as they prepare to go head to head at the Golden 1 Center on the morning of Sunday, March 17.

The Kings have won six of their last 10 games to sit just outside the top six in the Western Conference, one game behind Phoenix Suns in seventh position.

There is just a five-game swing between New Orleans Pelicans in fifth and Golden State Warriors in 10th, while top spot is also still very much up for grabs.

Mike Brown's team saw a two-game winning streak come to an end when they were beaten 112-104 by the Houston Rockets on March 11.

Domantas Sabonis finished with a game-high 25 points and 15 rebounds as Sacramento cut a 17-point Rockets lead down to five late in the fourth quarter.

Sabonis admitted they failed to match the physicality of Houston, who stepped up their game in the second half after trailing by 13 points at the break.

"That's what we're going to see in the playoffs," he said. "It's obviously a good thing to play against a team like that, but we've got to learn how to play against those kinds of teams and not just give into it."

The Knicks are fourth in the Eastern Conference, although just two games separate them from Miami Heat down in eighth position.

Tom Thibodeau's team were held to the lowest points total in the NBA this season when they lost 79-73 to Philadelphia 76ers on March 11.

New York shot 32.5 percent from the field and 22.5 percent from 3-point range, while they committed 21 turnovers, with Josh Hart guilty of giving the ball away six times on his own.

"Obviously, we didn't shoot the ball well. Turnovers were bad, I think I had six or seven myself, but you've just got to try to flush it," Hart said. "We've got them again on Tuesday and try to come out and play better."
