Arsenal v Burnley

Kick-off is at 17h00

Arsenal will target a return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome struggling Burnley to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, November 11.

The Gunners saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday, November 4, which was the first time in 11 games they had failed to get on the scoresheet.

Mikel Arteta's side were pushed down to fourth in the standings after Manchester City demolished Bournemouth 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium to go top and Liverpool drew 1-1 with Luton at Kenilworth Road to climb up to third on goals scored.

Tottenham also suffered their first defeat in 2023-24 as Chelsea battled back from an early goal down to triumph 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday, November 6, leaving Spurs a point off the league summit in second place.

The Clarets were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace at Turf Moor to extend their losing streak to four matches and they are kept out of the basement on goal difference alone after Sheffield United (20th) recorded their first win of the campaign following a 2-1 success against Wolves at Bramall Lane.

The Hatters climbed out of the relegation zone up to 17th spot, having exchanged places with the Cherries (18th), who are tied with them on six points, two more than Vincent Kompany's side and the Blades.

Gabriel Martinelli was Arsenal's most dangerous player against Newcastle, shooting straight at Nick Pope after cutting inside from the left and his cross led to a chance for Declan Rice, who steered a header wide of the left post. The Brazilian winger will be looking to improve his numbers after contributing just one goal and two assists in nine league games.

Luca Koleosho had a bright game against Palace and did well to create a good chance for Johann Berg Gudmundsson following a strong run down the left flank to make his way into the box. The Italian winger had an opportunity himself to get on the scoresheet, but got under his shot as he cleared the crossbar to remain without a goal in 11 appearances.

Arteta described VAR's decision to award the Magpies a goal 'disgraceful' after the ball appeared to cross the byline in the build-up to Anthony Gordon's controversial winner, while Joelinton wasn't penalised for a push on Gabriel either at the back post.

"For what the boys did out there and the way a football match has to be played, and what is allowed in football to score a goal, obviously we are talking about a very different topic. I feel embarrassed to be part of this show. It is unacceptable and is an absolute disgrace," the Spaniard said.

"We conceded nothing, and I have to praise my players for the way we played here. I haven't seen a single team do what we have coming here today, but the reality is that we are out with zero points and they have three.

"In this league the margins are so small, the competition is too big and it is unacceptable to be in this position after what we've done on that pitch."

Kompany is confident the Clarets will start picking up positives results if they keep  playing the way they did against the Eagles, who capitalised on a slip in defence to open the scoring before hitting the hosts on the counter late on to seal the win.

"The facts are we lost but played well. We created chances and looked like a team that has something to offer in this league," the Belgian said.

"If we play more often like this, we will get rewards. It was decided on a mistake and then the second goal, if you put into context, we put people forward and tried to get a late goal.

"We got punished trying to get that late goal, it can go either way but overall, the game was decided on mistake and not able to break our way through."
