With Atletico Madrid trailing behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid will hope to keep with the
LaLiga pace setters when they face Leganes at Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Matchday 10 of the 2024/25 LaLiga season on Sunday.
Diego Simeone’s charges have struggled to string positive results together in the last couple of games, recording back-to-back stalemates against Real Madrid and Real Sociedad respectively.
Atletico last tasted victory in a 1-0 result versus Celta Vigo on the 26
th of September as they currently sit in 3
rd position on the table with 17 points to their name.
Leganes have likewise been left frustrated in recent league fixtures and recorded three draws in succession against Getafe, Rayo Vallecano and Leganes respectively.
While Atletico are punching among the big boys on the table, Leganes occupy 17
th place after jotting down just eight points in their first nine league assignments.
As Atletico will once again look to challenge for the league title, Simeone praised his side’s defensive efforts this season but at the same time, urged his attacking department to be more insicive going forward.
“I take the positives from our defensive work, and we continue to seek improvements in our transitions. We have players capable of making that happen,” Simeone said after his side’s draw with Sociedad.
"I see the team as very solid defensively, well-organised, and doing what the game demands. We need to get better at transitions.
"We've got the players for it, but at the moment, it's preventing us from fully utilising the pace and skill we have upfront."
Leganes mentor Borja Jimenez on the other hand, believes that he has a side capable of competing in LaLiga despite their financial shortcomings.
“We have the lowest budget. We have few resources, but we have a more competitive squad,” Jimenez said.
We expect more from everything, from the coach. The sign is going to be suffering. And whoever doesn't think that way is wrong.”
